This compact Zigbee 3.0 relay module is ideal for users looking to upgrade their lighting or other electrical devices for smart control. With this module, connected circuits can be integrated into the smart home via the Zigbee 3.0 communication protocol.

The Retrofit MINI ZB module not only allows remote control, but also adds smart functions to traditional switches once installed, bringing greater convenience and flexibility. Due to its compact design, it can be installed behind almost any switch, so you may not need to replace old switches. A Zigbee gateway, bridge or coordinator is required for operation. Compared to the less powerful Sonoff ZBMINI R2, this model can transmit up to 16A, so it is also suitable for installation behind sockets.

What is Zigbee?

Zigbee is a smart home/IoT protocol designed for efficient and economical communication between smart devices. Unlike Wi-Fi devices that connect directly to a router, Zigbee devices need a Zigbee-WiFi gateway (or bridge) to connect to the internet. The advantage of Zigbee solutions is the reduced load on the Wi-Fi network, as only one device - the Zigbee gateway - connects to the router, while all other devices communicate via the Zigbee protocol. This avoids overloading the router with multiple IP addresses.

Zigbee technology also supports mesh networks. Zigbee devices at 230V (such as the Sonoff ZBMini R2, Sonoff S26 Zigbee socket) with phase and neutral lines can transmit data between other Zigbee devices and the gateway, even if they are not in direct range of the gateway.

Another advantage of the Zigbee protocol is its low power consumption. The minimal power consumption makes Zigbee popular for battery-powered sensors that can run for years on a single battery. Although Zigbee transmits less data than Wi-Fi, this is not a problem as it is mainly used for control commands and status updates. Zigbee is an industry standard, so standardised Zigbee devices are theoretically compatible with other Zigbee devices from different manufacturers.

SmartWise Mini ZB is compatible with:

Sonoff Zigbee gateways and coordinators on the eWeLink platform

SmartThings hubs, managed via the SmartThings app for iOS and Android

Philips Hue hub

Echo Plus 2nd generation, Echo 4th generation and Echo Show 2nd generation

SmartWise Mini ZB is a 230V relay module that connects to phase and neutral on the input side and can control a circuit up to 16A on the output side, allowing the circuit to be opened or closed. It is suitable for installation behind socket outlets or wall switches. An external switch can also be connected to the relay input, allowing control via wall switches (both push-button and conventional rocker switches). Of course, control via a Zigbee app and integration into a smart home is also supported. Control is possible with an internet-connected iOS or Android smartphone via the SmartThings app (if the module is connected to a SmartThings hub) or via the eWeLink app (if the module is connected to an eWeLink Zigbee bridge). The basic features of the eWeLink platform are available, including on/off status display, manual on/off and timers (schedulers, countdown timer, cycle control), but the pulse switch (inching) function is not available with this model not supported.

Product features:

Protocol: Zigbee 3.0, Zigbee2MQTT

Smart home platforms: Compatible with most standard Zigbee 3.0 systems, including open source platforms such as Home Assistant

Power supply: 100-240V AC 50/60Hz

Maximum load: 16A (resistive load)

Dimensions: 41 mm x 41 mm x 20 mm

Application support: eWeLink (via Zigbee gateway), SmartThings (via SmartThings hub)

Protection: ABS plastic housing (non-flammable)

Installation compatibility: Standard European electrical doses

Functions: Pulse switch function (inching) and automatic switch-off nista supported in the eWeLink app

Like Sonoff's ZBMini R2, this smart relay is equipped with a standard eWeLink-compatible Zigbee 3.0 chip that communicates via eWeLink or other Zigbee 3.0 gateways.
