Shelly 1 GEN3 is a new improved version of the Shelly one-way smart relay, formerly known as Shelly PLUS 1 (Gen2). Like the previous version Shelly Plus 1 (Gen2), Shelly 1 has GEN3 output independent of the relay power supply, so it also supports dry contact. The power metering function is not included.
(If you need a measured one-way relay, select Shelly 1PM GEN3 smart relay.)
Like all Shelly products, it connects directly to your Wi-Fi router, so no local hub or gateway (bridge) is needed. It can be installed as a standalone device to automate lights or other electrical devices.
It is one of the smallest Wi-Fi devices for smart control of wall switches or sockets. Its compact format allows it to be installed behind a standard light switch, wall socket or electrical junction box, ideal for retrofit solutions.
Installation behind existing switches or sockets allows remote control of lights or other devices and monitoring their on/off switching, while maintaining the functionality of existing switches or sockets, ideal for retrofitting smart controls. The Shelly 1 GEN3 is often used to control single-pole switches and sockets, and its 16A maximum load also allows the control of sockets.
The Shelly 1 GEN3 relay, like other small smart Shelly relays, includes a switch input, which means it can be installed behind light switches still using the wall switch to switch the lamp (or other device) on or off, and control it remotely via Wi-Fi. Various timers are also available. You can also disable the switch in the Shelly app - useful for children's rooms, for example, where you want to prevent the switch from being used.
The relay is compatible not only with double (toggle) switches but also with manual (rocker) and push-button switches. It can also work with double and triple (2-way and 3-way) switches.
With the automatic switch-off function, it is also possible to set a momentary switch.
The output of the Shelly 1 GEN3 relay is independent of the power supply (110V-240V AC / 12V DC / 24V-48V DC) and therefore supports both wet contact (up to 16A AC) and dry contact switching. It is therefore also popular for applications where dry switching is required, such as garage doors, door opener motors, etc. It can also switch 12V or 24V voltages used in some systems.
The Shelly PLUS 1 GEN3 is also suitable for controlling motorised doors and garage doors, as it supports a voltage-free switch for pulse activation. In combination with Shelly Plus Add-on and Magnetic door opening sensor you can also track the status of open or closed doors in the app.
IMPORTANT: The phase conductor of the power supply and the phase conductor at the switch input must belong to the same phase, as Shelly 1 GEN3 is not suitable for multiphase operation!
Shelly 1 GEN3 has the same dimensions as its predecessor, so standard DIN adapters can be used. Schematics are also included for easy and clear wiring.
Connection requires the new Shelly Cloud app, not compatible with the old version. Connection is at the same speed as Shelly Plus 1 thanks to the built-in Bluetooth chip.
The ESP32 processor used in Shelly Plus 1 has been replaced by the ESP-Shelly-C38F in GEN3 devices, which has a faster CPU and twice as much 8MB memory, allowing more features and faster performance compared to the PLUS line.
Shelly Plus 1 has overheating protection to ensure safer operation in small rooms with wall sockets.
In cloud mode, Shelly devices can manage each other using the Scenes, for example a light relay can switch on a relay at a socket outlet. Direct Device-to-Device (DDD) control between devices via HTTP commands is also supported, even without an internet connection.
Even with factory software, Shelly is one of the most user-friendly smart devices on the market for integration. It supports MQTT and management via REST API. It is compatible with Google Home, Amazon Echo and Yandex Alice voice control. Unlike Shelly 1, Shelly Plus 1 and GEN3 allow simultaneous management via the cloud and MQTT.
Many Shelly devices are already integrated into the SmartThings platform via Shelly Cloud.
Power supply: 110-240V AC (±10%), 24V-48V DC, 12V DC stabilised
Maximum power: 3500W/16A (AC), 10A (DC)
Both phase and neutral conductors are required for Shelly 1 GEN3 operation.
